Video – Silly Anna (murdering a Rabbit towards the End)

Anna the Traveling Retriever at the Beach

The other day I walked Anna through the little town of Cavalaire, as high as the road led us. So high, we could touch the clouds! Can you spot her sniffing the dead tree?

But most days we spent on the beach and in the water: playing with sticks, digging in the sand, swimming in the ocean or the creek and playing with other dogs.
As you can see in the first picture, Anna is still hesitant about the noisy waves, but eventually I got her to pick up the stick from me.

Anna the World Traveler in France

I’m a world traveler. I traveled more than 30 countries and you’ll find proof of some of my travels on another blog: http://globeriders.wordpress.com

It was only a matter of time until Anna would become my travel companion. Taking her to New York a few weeks ago was impossible, but taking her to France was do-able. So after Christmas we left cold snowy Germany and traveled to the warm South of France, La Cote D’Azur!

Since I didn’t want Anna having to sit in the car for too long, I spent a night with her near the French-German border in a motel. In the restaurant she was behaving quite well, so I eventually slipped some left-over Cordon Bleu under the table. She didn’t even chew, just inhaled it like a vacuum-cleaner!

A little after-dinner walk through the lovely German town of Neuenburg:

Back in the hotel room we had a party on the bed. Well, you know, she’s not usually allowed on the bed. I couldn’t resist throwing myself on the thick soft mattress, Anna following me instantly with a big leap. We had a pillow and blanket fight, followed by some trampoline-like action until …we fell asleep while watching the old classic Mrs. Doubtfire on TV.

In France the first walk led us down to the beach of course. A secret little cove in winter, a towel-covered beach in summer. “No dogs” all the signs say here but no-one seems to care. If you see people on the beach this time of the year, they are usually dog owners. So it came that Anna met a Labrador lady from Belgium called Luna. Those two played relentlessly for at least an hour while we humans were astonished about their sheer energy.

It was also that day that Anna went for her very first proper swim! I threw a stick in the creek that flows in the sea and without thinking much, Anna took a big leap and suddenly found herself in deep water, having to swim. The surprise was huge (for Anna and for me – I cheered loudly) and she even came back with the stick! It took her a while until she eventually made the same “mistake”, again being too surprised about not having ground under the feet. This time leaving the stick in the water, she swam back to the shore, then being struck by a burst of energy, running around in a craze, throwing herself in the sand and rubbing her back in it.

Guess what she did, when we got back home:
